RYCO in Montenegro Discusses Regional Peacebuilding with Young Leaders

Petrovac – Head of the RYCO Local Branch Office in Montenegro Mr Edin Koljenović took part in the School of Political Studies organized by the Civic Alliance (Građanska Alijansa) from 22 to 24 October, in Petrovac, Montenegro. He delivered a lecture about the mission and work of RYCO as well as its main achievements to strengthen peace in the Western Balkans. 

The School of Political Studies is a project supported by the Council of Europe designed for providing additional education of government officials, civil society and political leaders by promoting responsible and transparent administration.

Mr Koljenović used this chance to present the work of RYCO and its main achievements in the fields of dealing with the past and building good neighborly relations in the Western Balkan region.

“One of the key missions of RYCO is to empower young people in having their voice in public decision-making that affects their lives, as well as strengthen them to be a factor in building and maintaining safe and peaceful environments for themselves and their communities,” Mr Koljenović highlighted.

The seminar of the XIX generation of the School of Political Studies was devoted to lectures of dealing with past from the perspective of media responsibility, prosecutions, but also through the perspective of victims and witnesses, about anti-war movements during the ’90s, but also about new initiatives in Montenegro in terms of solving and prosecuting war crimes, and building new relations.

Schools of Political Studies are taking place throughout Europe in order to train future generations of young people showing potential for contributing to political, economic, social and cultural leadership in their countries. With the participation of national and international experts, the Schools carry out annual series of seminars and conferences on topics such as European integration, democracy, human rights, the rule of law and globalization. 

The School of Political Studies in Montenegro was launched in 2002, and it presents a specially designed program for the active or future decision-makers and recognized actors contributing to social change. Its key goal is to promote the rule of law and respect for human rights in Montenegro and wider.
