SARAJEVO – The Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) and the Youth Councils in Bosnia and Herzegovina: the Youth Council of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (VM FBIH), the Youth Council of Republika Srpska (OSRS) and the Youth Council of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina (VSMBD), signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) on 17 February, striving to enhance cooperation and partnership in the field of youth. The MoU’s were signed by the RYCO Secretary General Mr Đuro Blanuša and the representatives of the three youth councils.
The youth councils in Bosnia and Herzegovina represent three parts of the Contracting Party. However, they were established in different periods, where OSRS was established in 2004, VM FBiH in 2016, and VSMBD in 2018. Ever since their official establishment, together, they have shown determination towards creating a better and more prosperous environment for youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The RYCO Local Branch Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina held a working meeting with representatives of the youth councils where future cooperation and joint work were discussed. As a result of the meeting, it was concluded that future cooperation will be based on a solid partnership, rather than in a solely project-based relationship.
RYCO and the three youth councils share the same values and principles regarding youth participation and empowerment. All parties have been promoting and supporting the active participation of youth in decision-making processes as well as strengthening the capacities of young people and of those working with youth. Furthermore, VM FBIH, OSRS, and VSMBD are important actors in regional youth cooperation and youth mainstreaming in the Western Balkans.
The youth councils participate in the selection of the Youth Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the RYCO Governing Board based on the agreement with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The signed MoUs will improve RYCO’s and the youth councils’ support to youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This partnership will open new opportunities for cooperation and provide solutions to problems that require such a strengthened cooperation. We are confident that more information about the upcoming achievements of this new partnership will reach youth in the region.
