RYCO in Kosovo* Conclude Training of the Cycle II of Peace Broadcasters

PEJA – As a follow up to the Cycle I of “Peace Broadcasters: Empowering Young Journalists as Peace Reporters”, the RYCO Local Branch Office in Kosovo in partnership with Deutsche Welle (DW), the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK), and OSCE Mission in Kosovo, organized last week in Bogë, Peja – the Cycle II of the Program.

With a view of strengthening and improving skills and knowledge on quality journalism standards in the field of intercultural dialogue, and transitional journalism in Kosovo, taking into account fact-checking and incorporating constructive journalism in their content, Peace Broadcasters gathered 20 journalists from all media in Kosovo in a 4-day training in order to tackle the following modules: Transitional Journalism; Fact-Checking and Fake News; and Constructive Journalism.

The experts during the training jointly emphasized the importance of unbiased reporting as a prerequisite to dealing with the past and achieving cooperation between divided societies in Kosovo and beyond. The young journalists had the chance to learn and express opinions about these topics that they were little or not exposed to before.

Besides the training phase, the program entails mentoring through which young journalists, in a period of one month, under the mentorship of Deutsche Welle experts, will work on their individual content in the form of video reportage or written articles addressing the training topics.

In addition to enhancing the knowledge on the above-mentioned matters, this training aimed to also open a discussion between journalists on the role of media in reconciling societies.

The RYCO Local Branch Office in Kosovo is committed to the objective of contributing to a new generation of journalists who understand their crucial role in building and promoting peace in the region.
