Empowering Youth in Politics: Young Leaders Unite in Budva for Dialogue and Cooperation

Young leaders from twelve political parties gathered in Budva from March 11 to 13 to discuss strategies for involving young people in political decision-making processes, as well as to develop teamwork and cooperation in advocating for dialogue and collaboration, within the framework of the Youth, Peace, and Security Agenda.

This event was organized by the Local Branch of the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) in Montenegro, the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, and the Montenegrin Youth Network.

In his opening address, Edin Koljenović, Head of the RYCO Local Branch in Montenegro, emphasized that this type of training was organized for the first time.

“We have brought together representatives of both opposition and ruling parties to provide them with a space for discussion and potential cooperation, all with the goal of peacebuilding at both the local and regional levels,” said Koljenović, adding that he believes similar training sessions will continue in the future.

The participants were also addressed by Giovanni Gabassi, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, who encouraged young leaders to influence the modus operandi of their parties by raising awareness among their colleagues about the importance of youth consultation and engagement.

“You are the ones proving that cooperation among young people across the entire political spectrum is possible, all with the aim of creating a better place to live and ensuring the collective progress of Montenegrin youth,” said Gabassi.

The State Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Vladimir Obradović, emphasized that young people are key drivers of social change.

“Politics is one of the most important means through which you can shape the future of Montenegro. That is why it is crucial for young leaders to be empowered, well-informed, and ready for constructive dialogue and cooperation,” said Obradović.

During this three-day training, the Council of Youth Wings of Political Parties was established within the Montenegrin Youth Network. One of its first tasks will be the preparation of the 2025 session of the Youth Parliament in the Parliament of Montenegro.
