WESTERN BALKANS – The Western Balkan-French-German Jazz Meetings called “Balkan Academy of Music (BAM)” in Montenegro came along under the motto “A better region starts with youth”. These first Montenegro Jazz Meetings are part of a joint project by the Regional Youth Cooperation Office in Montenegro (RYCO), Institut Français and Goethe-Institut. Experienced musicians from Germany, France and the Western Balkans will compose, propose and discuss with young jazz musicians from the region.
The program will last for 6 days, from 17 to 22 September 2019, in the municipality of Bijelo Polje, Montenegro. Our joint event will gather up to 28 young musicians not older than 26 years, from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
The selected participants will be mentored by 8 academic, experienced and internationally recognized master musicians form Germany, France, and the WB6. Montenegro Jazz Meetings will include daily workshops dedicated to specific instruments, styles and individual skills. Public performances, concerts and jam sessions will be brought to stage by teachers and participants in different line-ups every night with the strong component of intercultural dialogue and learning.
Master classes, lectures, stage performances, jam sessions will create a creative atmosphere for the mutual benefit of different generations of musicians, composers and audience, while a short documentary production will catch the outcome of the project.
The evening concerts and performances will be attended by young people from different municipalities from the North part of Montenegro. Transportation for youngsters to come to the concert, speak to musicians, and beside this – also get involved in contact with RYCO, Goethe-Institut`s and Français` range of activities, will be organized in cooperation with schools and local partners from Montenegro.
