RYCO in North Macedonia Discusses Regional Youth Cooperation and Berlin Process

SKOPJE Head of the RYCO Local Branch Office in North Macedonia Mr Albert Hani participated in a public debate “Regional Youth Cooperation and Berlin Process” organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, on 30 October. The event, which gathered young people, representatives of diplomatic missions and governmental officials from North Macedonia, was organized within the scope of the upcoming Berlin Process Summit co-chaired by North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

The debate aimed to gather suggestions and recommendations from young people in North Macedonia and present them in the upcoming summit. During the discussion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Mr Bujar Osmani invited Mr Hani to present the work of RYCO, by acknowledging the organization’s national and regional importance. 

Mr Osmani highlighted the support of the Government of North Macedonia to RYCO and emphasized that young people need to be provided with more spaces to work on youth issues, cooperation and peacebuilding.

Speaking about youth work and youth engagement in the region, Mr Hani stated that young people should be more active and engaged in decision-making processes and their ideas on cooperation and reconciliation should be given priority from the Western Balkan governments. 

The debate continued with discussing youth policies that can advance the role of young people and empower them. In conclusion, Mr Hani pointed out that youth remain at the centre of RYCO’s work and activities, and that the Berlin Process summits will enable a stronger regional cooperation and engagement.

The event also wintessed the contributions of the EU Ambassador H.E. Mr David Geer, Ambassador of Bulgaria to North Macedonia H.E. Mr Angel Angelov, Director of the Agency for Youth and Sport of North Macedonia Mr Naumce Mojsovski, representative of the French Embassy to North Macedonia Ms Julie Mavral and President of National Youth Council of North Macedonia Mr Bojan Petrovski.

The upcoming Berlin Process summit will gather the leaders of the Western Balkans and the European Union for the seventh time to foster regional cooperation.
