Young people across the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova are being invited to step into the spotlight as storytellers of change in the energy sector. The Energy Community Secretariat, in collaboration with Bankwatch, CAN Europe, CLEW Network, and the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), has launched the Just Transition Young Voices Awards 2025, a unique opportunity for youth to highlight how their communities are navigating the shift to a greener, fairer economy.
The initiative is designed to promote youth engagement in energy and climate journalism, with a special focus on the theme of just transition, ensuring that the path toward decarbonization is inclusive, equitable, and community-driven.
Who Can Apply?
The Awards are open to individuals aged 18 to 30 from the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova. Applicants are encouraged to submit original, fact-based articles (700–1100 words in English) that explore challenges, solutions, and local experiences related to energy transition and climate justice.
Whether covering community-led initiatives, policy gaps, or stories of adaptation and resilience, young writers are invited to raise their voices and bring visibility to those at the heart of the transition.
What’s at Stake?
Three exceptional entries will be awarded the following prizes:

A one-month paid internship at the Energy Community Secretariat in Vienna;

A field mission on energy transition in the Western Balkans with Bankwatch;

Participation in the Climate Reporting Journalism Training with CAN Europe, taking place in Ohrid, from 1–3 September 2025.
In addition to these hands-on opportunities, the winning articles will be published on partner platforms and presented at the Energy Community Just Transition Forum, amplifying youth perspectives in regional and international dialogues.
Selection Process
Submissions will be evaluated by a diverse jury composed of representatives from the Energy Community Secretariat, Bankwatch, the CLEW Network, and RYCO, organizations united by a shared commitment to youth empowerment, environmental justice, and impactful storytelling.
