Meet the Heroes Who Make Our Community More Harmonious

In celebration of the International Day of Peace, the award ceremony for the 2024 Harmony Hero Awards took place at the German Residence in Pristina on September 24th. Organized by RYCO Local Branch Kosovo* and the German Embassy in Kosovo, this event honors young peacebuilders whose contributions to reconciliation and community development are exceptional.

After a thorough nomination process, five inspiring individuals from Kosovo were recognized for their outstanding efforts in peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue through community engagement. The ceremony gathered numerous young people, along with international and local representatives from various organizations. Notable attendees included RYCO Governing Board Youth Representative Ms. Donika Zogaj, Mr. Zulfaj from the Prime Minister’s office, and municipal representatives such as the deputy mayors of Lipjan and Prishtina, Mr. Bytyqi and Mr. Zogaj.

The evening started off a warm welcome from the German Ambassador, who underscored the importance of working toward peace as both individuals and a community. He stated, “No matter where you come from—ethnically, religiously, or culturally—each of you has something to contribute.” He also addressed the Harmony Heroes directly, saying, “To our Harmony Heroes, this award is just the beginning. Wear this title with pride as you continue your journey as peacebuilders.”

Donika Zogaj, the youth representative on the RYCO Governing Board, emphasized the vital role of youth in peace efforts, urging the awardees to foster dialogue, bridge divides, and empower their communities. “Your dedication is crucial for advancing peace,” she remarked.

Ms. Krenare Gashi Krasniqi, Head of the Local Branch Office, reaffirmed her commitment to supporting these young change-makers, stating, “I sincerely hope that you will uphold the values this award represents. As long as you continue your commitment to harmony and peace, RYCO will be your partner in this journey.”

The awardees—Amina Kaja, Mehreme Golliqi, Kimete Arifaj, Adriatik Llugiqi, and Suzana Maric Sejdija—shared their heartfelt challenges, and inspirations during their speeches. Amina emphasized her joy upon hearing of her nomination, saying, “That was happiness already. However, receiving the award itself makes me feel recognized, and it definitely pushes me for more work towards peace.” Their stories resonated with positivity and hope, reminding the audience of the power of individual contributions to collective peace. They each pledged to dedicate themselves to their new titles and the values associated with them.

As we celebrate their successes, we look forward to witnessing the ongoing impact of their efforts in promoting harmony and understanding in Kosovo and beyond. In a world often marked by division, their dedication shines brightly, reminding us of the power of youth to lead change. They exemplify that when we come together, regardless of our backgrounds, we can create a more peaceful and inclusive society.

Congratulations to the Harmony Heroes! Your dedication is hope for a more peaceful future.
