Representatives of Municipality of Ferizaj/Uroševac Visit RYCO

TIRANA – RYCO Deputy Secretary General Mr Fastos Mustafa met on Wednesday in the RYCO Head Office the representatives of the Municipality of Ferizaj/Uroševac – Director of the Directorate for Urban Planning Mr Lulzim Aliu and Chief of the Mayor’s Cabinet Mr Selim Marevci – and discussed the role of young people in the local communities.

RYCO Deputy Secretary General Mr Mustafa informed his interlocutors about the RYCO’s work, its structures, latest developments and future plans. Moreover, he underlined the need for creating more ties between RYCO and local administrations throughout the region, especially through the RYCO Local Branch Offices.

Mr Aliu informed the RYCO Deputy Secretary General about the urban planning in Ferizaj/Uroševac, and the role of young people in this process. He pointed out that the Municipality is paying a special attention on a better and higher participation of young people in the urban planning, with the focus on consultation process in early steps of planning. Many young people from Ferizaj/Uroševac, Kosovo* and from the region in general, have studied, lived and/or visited different cities in developed countries, so their contribution might be highly important, he concluded.

On the other hand, Mr Marevci, expressed the will of the Mayor and the local administration for the support and inclusion of civil society in various policy making processes and plannings. One of the ideas for a better youth inclusion in such processes is, he gave an example, to advance the level of networking and exchange of experience throughout the Western Balkan cities, but also from the European Union. He added that gathering of different regional stakeholders in the processes on the local level, e.g. through conferences, would be highly appreciated. RYCO’s role is seen as crucial in the support of young people and their great innovative ideas, the Chief of the Mayor’s Cabinet concluded.
