TIRANA – Head of RYCO Local Branch Office in Albania Mr Kreshnik Loka participated in the final round of selection of the Albanian Youth Delegates to the United Nations (UN) program, implemented by United Nation Association Albania and held on 14 July.
The event was the finalization of a tough application process that lasted almost two months and welcomed motivated and driven young people aiming to be the next Youth Delegates to the UN. The final event gathered the best four candidates who competed between each other in a setting inspired by the United States presidential debate format. The fantastic four had the chance to answer several rounds of questions on the United Nations, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, international relations, and more.
The candidates were later on assessed and evaluated by the Selection Committee comprised of representatives from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, US Embassy in Albania, Embassy of Netherlands in Albania, UN Resident Coordinator in Albania, National Youth Agency of Albania and RYCO Local Branch Office in Albania.
During the opening of the event the members of the Selection Committee had the chance to address the audience and the four candidates.
“I am confident that today we are standing in front of four young people that are strongly opinionated, passionate, motivated and well aware of the global issues that Albania and our planet is going through. Therefore, I think that these are the role models that we should really promote, these are the real influencers that we should give the space and time to share their work and knowledge and to influence their peers,” Mr Loka stated in his remarks.
The selection committee had a very difficult task as all four candidates were experienced young people with something unique and special to offer. Anyhow, only two of them could win the race and we are happy to announce that the next Albanian Youth Delegates to the UN are Ania Sauku and Diogjen Kolici.
RYCO wishes them success in this new position and our Local Branch Office in Albania is always open to support them.
The Albanian Youth Delegate to the United Nations (AYD/UNYD Albania) is a program that aims to increase, as well as encourage the participation of the Albanian youth and their views in the decision-making process at the national and international level by annually including two young people from Albania in the national delegation of Albania to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). YDP is established and run by United Nations Association Albania (UNA Albania) and it is supported by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, the UN Agencies in Albania and the Embassy of Netherlands in Tirana.
