NOVI SAD – RYCO Local Branch Office in Serbia in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia and OPENS – European Youth Capital Novi Sad 2019 organized the Youth Rights Talks Regional. The event took place in Novi Sad on 14th December.
The event gathered 80 young people from the region to share their ideas and experiences on maintaining peace and creating a better and more inclusive region.
The opening remarks were delivered by Ms Milena Stošić of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Youth representative from Serbia in the RYCO Governing Board Mr Marko Kostić, who expressed their sincerest satisfaction for having the chance to welcome young people from the region and hear their views on the youth rights in the region.
During the first part, on the panel “NoPlayback: Your story sound familiar” seven young people from the region talked about their views and ideas about youth rights in the region. The panel also underlined the importance of inclusion of young people with disabilities, the rights of “invisible children of the wars”, the challenges of the youth sector, brain drain, non-formal education and fight for gender equality.
The second panel of the event followed the discussion on the role of young people in peacebuilding and inclusion processes. The panel brought together Youth Representative of Montenegro in the RYCO Governing Board Ms Andrea Mićanović, Ms Mirela Rajković of the South East European Youth Network (SEEYN), Ms Danijela Korać-Mandić of the Humanitarian Centre Novi Sad (NSHC) Mr Nino Preložnjak of the Association of Young People Varaždin Underground Club, and Associate at the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality of Serbia Mr Milan Nikolić.
The Youth Rights Talks are taking place in Belgrade since 2018 in cooperation with the Belgrade Center for Human Rights, UN Team for Human Rights and the OSCE Mission to Serbia. In 2019, Novi Sad is the European youth capital, and the Regional Youth Rights Talks 2019 is part of the program organized and implemented by OPENS 2019 – European Youth Capital Novi Sad and RYCO.
