RYCO Secretary General Albert Hani opened the Regional Youth Medical Olympiad in Tirana

Tirana – RYCO Secretary General Albert Hani participated as a speaker in an opening panel of Regional Youth Medical Olympiad – RYMO. Regional initiative Organized by Albanian Committee of Medical Students (ACMS) and supported by RYCO through a 5th Open Call, gathered together today in Tirana medical students from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo* and North Macedonia to exchange their knowledge, network and learn about the ways they can contribute to building a stronger region not only through science but by combining this experience with culture, constructive dialogue as well as addressing the common problems that the young people of the region have.

In his opening remarks SG Hani highlighted the service of humanity as a crucial part of Oath of Hippocrates and the role of medical profession in peacebuilding. 

“As ethnocentrism is an inevitable phenomenon of the confrontation phase of the cultural models of different societies RYMO project will contribute on making instruments to avoid this ‘’virus of ethnocentrism’’ in our society of WB6.Profession of doctor has no boundaries and borders and serve to human without cultural barriers and is natural path toward peace. RYMO project is part of Ryconnecting Call and will contribute for youth empowerment,” SG Hani concluded. 

The aim of RYMO initiative is to build bridges of cooperation between young doctors, who have an important role in the development of the region and offers Berlin Process-aligned opportunity for talented young people to showcase their skills and build new connections in the medical field.

Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Albania, Albana Koçiu, Minister of Youth and Children of Albania, Bora Muzhaqi, and Deen of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Xheladin Dracini, delivered their speech at the event as well. The opening ceremony was also attended by RYCO Open Call Manager Sonila Necaj.
