RYCO Supports Exchange of Young Scouts

OHRID – Through its second Open Call, RYCO and the United Nations Peace Building Fund supported thirty-two young people from North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, participants of a five-day Scout United youth scout exchange. The program organized in partnerships between First Scout Unit from Skopje and Scouts Units from Prijedor, Cetinje and Niš, took place in Ohrid on 5 – 9 December.

The main aim of this exchange was to reinforce the young people from the regional scout movements in creating a relevant multicultural network for sustainable regional youth cooperation and mobility in the region.

In the opening remarks, participants were addressed by Mr Milorad Cetkovich who conveyed the image of the past and the friendship that once existed between these organizations. Additionally, Project Coordinator Ms Snezana Jankovikj, highlighted that the exchange is just a beginning of one wonderful friendship that has a lot of follow up activities and promised that together with Mr Dušan Đorđević and Mr Nenad Šepović Mišković will make sure that the second exchange will be even greater.

For a sixteen-year-old participant from Montenegro Ms Iskra Zeković this exchange was a perfect opportunity to make new friends and create new memories. Her scout friend, eighteen-year-old Ms Maja Mijatović from Serbia, thinks that the activity was a very nice experience and wishes that more young people in the region are brave enough to explore new challenges.

The interactive program facilitated by Mr Jordan Bajraktarov of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and Mr Dimitar Chakar, consisted of team and group building activities on youth activism, intercultural dialogue and learning, communications skills, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, reconciliation, dialogue for peace, diversity, and inclusion.
