Students from the Western Balkans Strengthen Regional Cooperation at International Student’s Day Event

Skopje, November 18, 2024 — Students from across the Western Balkans gathered in Skopje this week for a dynamic three-day event, organized by LBO MKD and the Youth Educational Forum in partnership with the University Student Assembly of the University “St. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. The event, marking International Student’s Day, focused on enhancing regional cooperation, developing student leadership, and fostering dialogue on key issues affecting youth in the region.

This year’s event built on the success of last year’s Student Station initiative, expanding its scope to include students from the WB6 region. The aim was to deepen regional collaboration and provide a platform for students to engage with one another, share experiences, and create lasting partnerships.

Throughout the event, students participated in various activities designed to equip them with the tools needed to be active agents of change. Informal networking sessions allowed participants to connect and discuss common challenges, while training workshops focused on building leadership, advocacy, and project management skills. Experienced mentors led the sessions, ensuring that students gained practical knowledge to carry forward into their communities.

Panel discussions with university representatives, government officials, and youth leaders addressed key issues such as education, employment, and the role of youth in shaping regional policy. These discussions sparked insightful conversations about the importance of youth participation in decision-making processes and the need for greater cross-border cooperation.

A key highlight of the event was the development of regional project ideas. Students worked together to brainstorm initiatives that could address shared challenges, from environmental sustainability to cross-cultural exchange. These projects reflect the creativity and drive of young leaders determined to make a tangible impact in the region.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of commitment to regional cooperation, with students leaving inspired to implement the ideas and partnerships formed over the three days. This year’s International Student’s Day event demonstrated the powerful potential of youth in the Western Balkans to collaborate and drive change, setting the stage for future joint efforts that will continue to strengthen ties across borders.
