Friday is Day for YOUth to Choose

At the end of the every hard working week, RYCO will be giving you a youth perspective on regional and local hot topics through works of the students of journalism from around the Western Balkans

WESTERN BALKANS – Within the framework of the advocacy project “A Better Region Starts with Youth”, RYCO organized a three-month pilot Program for Students of Journalism in the Western Balkans. Providing an opportunity for 18 young journalists to create more than 65 youth-related stories under the supervision of their university professors as mentors. We gathered six university teams from the Western Balkans to collaborate on hot youth-related topics.

The time for sharing some of their stories has finally come as an overture to our soon-to-be-launched youth platform. Starting next Friday, the content of the students that RYCO awarded with laptops and certificates will be published weekly under the label “YOUth Choose”. The Godmothers of the “YOUth Choose” are Branislava, Andrea and Dijana, three young journalists from Serbian university team who are working tirelessly on podcast series under the same name.

The Program has been implemented with the support of the Federal Republic of Germany, offering  opportunities to the students who were not mobile due to the COVID-19 pandemic constraints to gain intercultural understanding and cooperate regionally, empowering future journalists to meet and collaborate with their neighboring peers. Even though most of the collaboration between teams and members took place online, a lot of friendships were born and many bonds all over the region have been established.

Better region starts with youth, and a better future of the Western Balkans will be achieved with the help of young journalists and their affirmative view of the region. Following the great outcome of this pilot program, RYCO plans to have its extension soon. Until then, stay tuned and choose what YOUth Choose.
