Strengthening Youth Cooperation in the Western Balkans: GIZ Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro Country Directors Visited RYCO

In a significant step towards strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing youth initiatives in the Western Balkans, RYCO hosted GIZ Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro Country Directors, Daniel Bagwitz, accompanied by GIZ Albania Country Director Sonja Kurz and GIZ Team Leader Jasmin Valjevac.

The meeting provided an opportunity to gain deeper insights into RYCO’s mission, ongoing projects, and collaborative efforts with GIZ, particularly through the Superschools Project- RYCO’s flagship program designed to support peacebuilding, reconciliation, and intercultural learning among secondary schools, students, and their communities across the WB6. By participating in the Superschools program, secondary schools contribute to peacebuilding efforts, build long-term partnerships, and promote mutual understanding among youth.

Representing RYCO at the meeting were Secretary General Albert Hani, Head of Programs Teodora Stolevska, Superschools Project Manager Mimoza Gavrani and Head of Local Branch Office in Tirana, Kreshnik Loka. The discussions focused on the successful implementation of joint activities through the Superschools Project on a local and regional level and explored opportunities for continued cooperation on future initiatives for promoting intercultural understanding and cooperation.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of RYCO and GIZ to empower young people in the Western Balkans by providing them with opportunities for growth, learning, and collaboration.

The outcomes of the meeting included reinforcing existing partnerships and setting the stage for innovative youth-focused initiatives in the region. The collaboration between RYCO and GIZ highlights the importance of regional partnerships in fostering peace, stability, and development, with youth playing a central role in shaping the future of the Western Balkans.
