Third Edition of the Sport for Development Instructor Training Kicks Off in Skopje

The first part of the third edition of the Sport for Development (S4D) Instructor Training was successfully implemented between 1st to 5th of April in Skopje, bringing together 25 youth workers, coaches, educators, and sport practitioners from across the Western Balkans. The training was organized by the GIZ Sport for Development team in cooperation with the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO).

This training provided participants with an engaging and hands-on learning experience through:

  • Interactive workshops focused on S4D methodology
  • Practical exercises encouraging teamwork, reflection, and creativity
  • Peer exchange on using sport to address social issues and promote inclusion

This initiative builds on GIZ and RYCO’s joint commitment to promoting sport as a powerful tool for social and regional youth development. By strengthening the capacities of youth practitioners, it aims to support the local application of the Sport for Development approach across the Western Balkans.

The training demonstrated how sport can go far beyond physical activity, acting as a platform for promoting meaningful dialogue, inclusion, and cooperation across the region. Participants brought diverse experiences and backgrounds, contributing to a strong intercultural exchange and laying the groundwork for long-term regional collaboration.

The journey continues in June 2025 with the second part of the training in Prizren, where participants will further develop their skills and prepare to implement local initiatives using the S4D methodology.

Through this program, GIZ and RYCO reaffirm their shared dedication to empowering young people and building sustainable peace and cooperation in the Western Balkans.
