RYCO Participates in Berlin Process Foreign Ministers Meeting

GERMANY/WESTERN BALKANS RYCO Secretary General Mr Albert Hani participated in the Foreign Ministers Meeting held within the Berlin Process, which took place online on Tuesday, 8 June. The meeting was hosted by the German Federal Foreign Minister Mr Heiko Maas and focused on supporting the development of closer ties between the Western Balkans 6 and the EU, in the context of EU accession and enhanced regional cooperation.

The opening remarks delivered by the German Federal Minister were followed by the plenary with the six foreign ministers from the region, participants from the EU, RYCO, the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), and the Civil Society Forum.

Speaking of RYCO’s work for youth in the Western Balkans, RYCO Secretary General highlighted the five years of projects and successes. He took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of cooperation and thanked the partners and friends for their continuous support.

“Particularly during the Berlin Process, we all understood how interdependent we are and how much we need each other. Now it is time to see the real value of peace and reconciliation. To see that “building roads” actually means connecting cultures, traditions and it also means creating portals to the past,” Mr Hani concluded.

The Foreign Ministers’ Meeting precedes and prepares for the Berlin Process Summit by connecting the Civil Society Forum of the Berlin Process with the other ministerial meetings and the Summit itself. This year’s Berlin Process Summit will take place on 5 July 2021 in Berlin, hosted by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.
