RYCO, OSCE Work Together to Strengthen Role of Youth Representatives

OHRID – The RYCO Local Branch Office in North Macedonia and the OSCE Mission to Skopje organized four-day training for RYCO senior management, Youth Representatives in the RYCO Governing Board and Heads of the RYCO Local Branch Offices. The training took place on 5-8 April in Ohrid. During the training, the RYCO staff and Youth Representatives discussed concrete steps and key needed improvements for strengthening the co-management principle in RYCO.

Youth are a fundamental part of society and can serve as significant agents of change at local and regional levels. Young women and men must be at the table when issues of concern to them are being discussed by building up meaningful youth participation and engagement.

The training covered topics such as clear procedures and guidelines for co-management principle implementation in practice, induction process for new members of the RYCO Governing Board and support mechanism for their meaningful participation. In addition, the participants worked on coordination and synchronization between the RYCO Head Office in Tirana, the six Local Branch Offices and continuous enhancement of Youth Representatives’ role and position in the RYCO Governing Board.

Last year, the OSCE Mission to Skopje and OSCE Mission in Montenegro supported RYCO with a needs assessment report on strengthening the role of the co-management principle in the RYCO Governing Board, and the position and role of the Youth Representatives in RYCO. Key finding of the needs assessment is that there is evident space for improvement and strengthening of co-management principle in RYCO and that there is high agreement about it by the RYCO Governing Board.
