WESTERN BALKANS – This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and its founding Charter. The Charter of the United Nations entered into force on 24 October 1945. Since 1948, this day is observed and celebrated annually as the United Nations Day.
By promoting security, stability and global peace, the United Nations have sought to create the necessary space for dialogue and agreement, as well as for solving problems together. Moreover, it has set an example that achieving international cooperation and helping establish friendly relations is key for human development and social progress.
As RYCO’s work is ingrained in the principles of multilateralism and consensus, we are proud to partner with the United Nations in shared initiatives and cooperation, and in efforts of finding new pathways to build a better and peaceful future. Together with the UN family in the Western Balkans, we are implementing the project Supporting the Western Balkan’s Collective Leadership on Reconciliation: Building Capacity and Momentum for RYCO funded by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund.
The project aims to foster social cohesion and reconciliation, enhance attitudes of tolerance and reduce prejudice and discrimination among youth in the Western Balkans, through supporting RYCO in building its institutional capacity and partnerships with civil society, education institutions (schools) grassroots youth organizations and youth in general. It strengthens RYCO as a regionally owned mechanism with the mandate to promote reconciliation, mobility, diversity, democratic values, participation, active citizenship and intercultural learning.
We wish that this day serves as a reminder of the importance of finding common solutions to challenges that have no borders, by joining forces in multilateral approaches. Strengthening cooperation and promoting peace will enable our societies to come together in shared values and move forward.
Happy UN Day!
