RYCO and Germany Award Nermina Hrnić from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2022 Berlin Process Summit Logo Competition

WESTERN BALKANS/GERMANY – The Regional Youth Cooperation Office, in partnership with the German Federal Government, has selected an entry of a young designer from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ms Nermina Hrnić, as the winner of the Open Call for Young Designers: 2022 Western Balkans Berlin Summit Logo Competition. The logo competition was opened from 11 to 25 August 2022 and invited young people (from 18 to 30 years old) from the Western Balkans to design the logo for this year’s Western Balkans Berlin Process Summit which will take place in Berlin ( 1- 3 November 2022).

Choosing the best design was not an easy task since 202 young designers from the whole region submitted their entries. The selection committee composed of the Youth Representatives in the RYCO Governing Board and RYCO Heads of the Local Branch Offices, accompanied by the validation of the German Government awarded the three best entries.

The winners are:

  • First prize: Nermina Hrnić from Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Second prize: Eli Gjoka from Albania
  • Third prize: Fatjona Bulica from Kosovo*

RYCO and the German Federal Government will award the winners with financial prizes, too. The first prize winner will receive 2.000€, the second prize will be awarded the gross sum of 1.000€, while the third prize winner will receive 500€.

The winning entry represents abstract birds in a form of arrows that by gathering in a flock form the outline of the Western Balkans. The arrows themselves carry the symbolism of dynamics and moving towards the goal. Western Balkans Contracting Parties, as well as the European Union and Germany as the host country, are represented with the logo colours.

The Berlin Process was initiated by Germany to promote regional cooperation of the Western Balkans and support the EU’s enlargement policy. Its first summit was held on 28 August 2014 in Berlin. It was followed by summits in Vienna (2015), Paris (2016), Trieste (2017), London (2018), Poznan (2019) and Sofia (2020). The Berlin Process fosters connectivity in the region, through economic cooperation but not only: One of the most tangible results of the Berlin Process is the establishment of the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO). The Agreement on the Establishment of RYCO was signed by the six Western Balkan Prime Ministers during the Paris Summit on 4 July 2016.
